Dr. Riehl attended college in Southern California where he majored in biochemistry and molecular biology and graduated with honors. He attended medical school in Philadelphia at Temple University School of Medicine where he encountered a robust clinical experience that helped to instill within him the caring and compassionate approach which he continues to bring to his patients every day. Dr. Riehl performed his orthopaedic surgery residency in rural Pennsylvania at Geisinger Medical Center. It was at Geisinger where Dr. Riehl learned to approach orthopaedic surgery in a comprehensive manner and to bring the best available innovation to his patients. Dr. Riehl became heavily involved in orthopaedic research during his residency as well, where he published 11 research papers and 3 textbook chapters on topics ranging from foot disorders to multiligamentous knee injuries (Dr. Riehl has continued his quest to further orthopaedic knowledge and innovation since residency. For a full list of his publications, click here). Dr. Riehl received subspecialty training in fracture care at Orlando Regional Medical Center, a high volume trauma center in Orlando, Florida. It was there that Dr. Riehl not only cultivated his expertise in pelvic and acetabular surgery, and also trained to perform direct anterior hip replacement surgery. After fellowship, Dr. Riehl went into practice at the University of Louisville, where he was an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery and was quickly made the associate residency program director as a result of his skill and affinity for teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. Dr. Riehl received the prestigious award of the Best Faculty Educator of the residents two years in a row while at the University of Louisville. From Louisville Dr. Riehl brought his medical practice to Pensacola, FL where he served the gulf coast for nearly 7 years. There Dr. Riehl developed and implemented protocols across specialty lines to improve patient care and continued to publish research. During this time Dr. Riehl also traveled part time and held the position of director of orthopaedic trauma at a trauma center in eastern Kentucky. Additionally, he was named to the editorial board of an orthopaedic journal, and to the review board of two others. Dr. Riehl remains active in academics working with residents and medical students in research endeavors. Dr. Riehl is currently the residency Program Director for the Medical City UNT/TCU Orthopaedic Surgical Residency in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Riehl has committed his career to serving the communities where he has practiced while providing the highest quality of care, and always putting the patient first. Dr. Riehl currently lives and practices in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and continues his dedication to the field of orthopaedic surgery.
